Frequently asked questions

No. The video is processed on your device by ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. The only download is the engine itself (about 32 MB from a public CDN, once per visit); your file never leaves your browser.

Use a shorter clip, a smaller width (320–480 px) and a lower frame rate (8–12 fps). GIF stores every frame as an image, so length × size × frame rate drives the file size.

GIF can show at most 256 colors per frame. The converter builds an optimized palette from your clip and uses dithering, which keeps colors close, but smooth gradients may show some banding.

No. The GIF contains only your video frames.

Long GIFs become very large and the conversion runs in your browser's memory. For longer clips, a video format like MP4 is a better choice.
