How to use the Barcode Generator

Frequently asked questions

Code 128 encodes letters, numbers and symbols and is the best general choice. Retail products need EAN-13 (worldwide) or UPC-A (North America), and shipping cartons use ITF-14.

The barcode image itself is free to use. For retail, the number must be one registered to your company with GS1 — stores reject made-up EAN or UPC numbers.

The last digit of EAN, UPC and ITF-14 codes is calculated from the others so scanners can detect misreads. Enter one digit fewer and we add it, or enter the full number and we verify it.

Download the SVG for print — it scales without blur. Keep the white margin around the bars, and print in dark ink on a light background for reliable scanning.
