No. The HEIC decoder (libheif compiled to WebAssembly) runs inside your browser, so your photos stay on your device the whole time.

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhones and iPads. It saves space, but many websites, Windows apps and older devices can't open it — converting to JPG fixes that.

No. The converted JPG or PNG contains only the image pixels, so location, camera model and date information are not carried over. That also makes the files safer to share.

Only the main still image stored in the HEIC file is converted. The motion part of a Live Photo is a separate video file and isn't affected.

The converter library (about 3 MB) loads the first time you convert. After that it stays in memory, so the rest of your photos convert faster.
