Hash Generator

Calculate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes and HMACs of text or files, and compare checksums.

100% Client-Side

Type text or drop a file to see its MD5 and SHA hashes; paste an expected checksum to compare.

How to use the Hash Generator

  1. 1

Choose Text or File as the input.

  2. 2

Type your text, or drop a file to hash its exact bytes.

  3. 3

Optionally enter a secret key to compute HMACs instead of plain hashes.

  4. 4

Pick hex or Base64 output and copy the hash you need.

  5. 5

Paste a published checksum into Compare to confirm it matches.

Frequently asked questions

Switch to File, drop the downloaded file, and paste the checksum from the publisher's site into the Compare box. A green match on the right algorithm means the file is intact and unmodified.

No. SHA hashes use your browser's built-in Web Crypto API and MD5 uses a small JavaScript library, all running locally. Your file never leaves your device.

No. MD5 and SHA-1 have known collision attacks. They're fine for spotting accidental corruption, but use SHA-256 or stronger for anything security-related. Never use any plain hash to store passwords.

A keyed hash: it mixes a secret key into the hash so only someone with the key can produce or check it. It's used to sign API requests and webhooks. Enter a key to switch every algorithm to HMAC mode.

Files are read into memory, so the limit depends on your device. Files up to 1 GB are accepted; on phones, stay well below that.
