Frequently asked questions
No. The PDF is opened and edited entirely in your browser, so your documents never leave your device. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
Smart mode re-compresses the JPEG photos inside the PDF and cleans up unused data, leaving text, fonts and vector graphics untouched. Strong mode turns every page into a JPEG image at 72, 100 or 150 DPI, which shrinks scans the most but makes text unselectable and removes links and form fields.
PDFs made mostly of text, or whose images are already compressed, have little left to save. When the result would not be smaller, the tool tells you the file is already optimized and keeps your original.
It re-encodes JPEG photos in RGB or grayscale. Other kinds of images, such as CMYK photos or lossless graphics, are kept as they are so their appearance doesn't change.
Not yet. Encrypted PDFs can't be edited in the browser, so you'll see a message asking you to remove the password first.
