Frequently asked questions

Nothing is uploaded. Audio is analyzed live in your browser, and a test clip is only recorded when you press Record — it stays on this page unless you download it.

Check that the right microphone is selected, that it isn't muted by a hardware switch or your system settings, and that no other app has exclusive access to it. Then stop and start the test again.

When speaking normally, the bar should sit roughly in the middle (around -30 to -12 dB) without reaching the red end. If it hits the maximum, the sound clips and distorts.

It turns on your browser's built-in noise suppression, echo cancellation and automatic gain — the same processing video-call apps use. Turn it off to hear your microphone's raw sound.

Without headphones, your speakers feed back into the microphone and can cause a loud howl. Headphones avoid that loop.
